After years of dealing with inferior hard boiled eggs, I was thrilled to discover that there is another way to cook them besides boiling!  If you want perfect hard boiled eggs, you’ll want to know this ultimate Instant Pot hard boiled eggs recipe!

Eggs are such an amazing food!  They’re nutritious, frugal and plentiful, especially if you have chickens!  We definitely eat a lot of eggs in our home!

I keep plenty of hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator for snack and a quick lunch, but to also treat the dogs with!

However, to be perfectly honest, I usually avoid egg recipes that require a perfect looking hard boiled egg!  It’s just too much stress!

Every Easter, when it comes time to color eggs, it seems that at least 25% of my eggs can’t be used because they’re cracked.

What a relief it was to learn that I could use my Instant Pot to make nearly perfect hard boiled eggs!

Perhaps you’ve heard of the “5-5-5” method for making hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot, and this is the method I’ll be showing you today.

First, let’s look at what equipment you’ll need:

-An Instant Pot, either the 6-quart or the 8-quart will work.

-Trivet or egg basket

-Store-bought eggs or farm-fresh eggs

-Water

What is the 5-5-5 Instant Pot Egg Method?

When you hear of the “5-5-5” method for making hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot, the process is as follows…

The first “5” refers to the cooking time in the Instant Pot.

You will want to set your Instant Pot on the “pressure cooking” setting for 5 minutes.

The second “5” refers to the number of minutes that you will need to let the Instant pot rest, once it’s completed cooking.

The third “5” refers to the number of minutes that your eggs needs to cool in ice water.

Let’s walk through the entire process together.

Place the trivet on the bottom of the inner pot and then add one cup of water (for the 6-quart model) or 1  1/2 cups of water to the 8-quart model.

You will need to use a trivet or an egg rack, so that your eggs aren’t sitting on top of each other.

Then place your eggs accordingly.  Place the lid on your Instant Pot.

Using the “Pressure Cook” button, set the cook timer for 5 minutes.

Let the Instant Pot complete it’s cook cycle, then let it cool down for 5 minutes.

Then, remove the lid from the Instant Pot.  Carefully remove hot eggs and put them into a bowl of very cold/ice water.  Let them stay there for 5 minutes.
