Perhaps you’ve heard of the “5-5-5” method for making hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot, and this is the method I’ll be showing you today.
First, let’s look at what equipment you’ll need:
-An Instant Pot, either the 6-quart or the 8-quart will work.
-Trivet or egg basket
-Store-bought eggs or farm-fresh eggs
What is the 5-5-5 Instant Pot Egg Method?
When you hear of the “5-5-5” method for making hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot, the process is as follows…
The first “5” refers to the cooking time in the Instant Pot.
You will want to set your Instant Pot on the “pressure cooking” setting for 5 minutes.
The second “5” refers to the number of minutes that you will need to let the Instant pot rest, once it’s completed cooking.
The third “5” refers to the number of minutes that your eggs needs to cool in ice water.
Let’s walk through the entire process together.
Place the trivet on the bottom of the inner pot and then add one cup of water (for the 6-quart model) or 1 1/2 cups of water to the 8-quart model.
You will need to use a trivet or an egg rack, so that your eggs aren’t sitting on top of each other.
Then place your eggs accordingly. Place the lid on your Instant Pot.
Using the “Pressure Cook” button, set the cook timer for 5 minutes.
Let the Instant Pot complete it’s cook cycle, then let it cool down for 5 minutes.
Then, remove the lid from the Instant Pot. Carefully remove hot eggs and put them into a bowl of very cold/ice water. Let them stay there for 5 minutes.
You’ll soon discover how easy the peels come off of your hard boiled eggs! They will look so amazing for your eggs dishes!
It’s been said that you should use eggs that are a bit older to hard boil. However, with the Instant Pot recipe, it doesn’t matter about the age of your eggs (as long as they are still good!).
Aren’t these gorgeous?
If you prefer a softer yolk, you can cook them for just 4 minutes, instead of 5, in the Instant Pot.
I hope you’ll use your Instant Pot to make perfect hard boiled eggs!
