Strawberry season is right around the corner! Whether you pick your berries at a U-pick farm, grocery store or gather them from your own garden, you’ll want to know “How to Freeze Strawberries”.
I absolutely LOVE frozen berries, we use them all year round! We are big smoothie fans, but frozen berries are also great for quick breads, pies, crisps and even topping waffles or pancakes!
One of the things people struggle with is the fruit sticking together, but that’s totally unavoidable. Let’s start with our fresh strawberries….
Wash the berries thoroughly and dry. Then cut off the top and slice into 2-4 pieces, whatever you please. I prefer to slice them into smaller pieces for smoothies.
Lay your sliced berries on a cookie sheet evenly and not touching each other.
Pop the cookie sheet in the freezer for a couple of hours. This will “flash freeze” the berries, so that they aren’t completely frozen but they are frozen enough to stay separate from each other.
While you wait, grab a gallon-sized zip lock bag and label it.
Use a spatula and scrape the berries off the cookie sheet, and then put them in a zip-lock freezer bag. Put in the freezer and enjoy whenever you want!
